Advent: Restoring the Weary Soul
Advent, much to my surprise, has become one of my favorite seasons. After years of the traditional Christmas routine, running at breakneck pace between Black Friday and New Years Day, all the while struggling with the consumeristic approach to the birth of Jesus, a new world was opened to me through Advent. It happened slowly, year by year, as the ancient contemplative practices of slowing, silence and solitude began to transform the holidays into “holy days” where I could experience the presence of God as I celebrated the birth of His son.
I invite you to join me in welcoming the ancient practice of Advent, embracing the luxury of slowing and taking Jesus at his word: “come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…?” Can you imagine what it would feel like to enter the new year rested rather than worn out? This year take a chance on Advent, and find rest for your weary soul.
